What is Model UN?

Long Beach Poly’s Model United Nations (MUN) program is a student-run club and organization dedicated to teaching students about international issues and diplomacy through simulated discussion and debate. As an organization, Poly MUN facilitates student attendance to both local and national MUN Conferences where students debate international, historical, and fictional issues while representing the interests of an assigned country, historical figure, or fictional character. The program consistently performs well at both high school and collegiate conferences and was named “Best Large Delegation” by the University of California, San Diego for 2018 and 2019, as well as at many high school conferences attended. Overall, the Poly Model United Nations program is an exciting opportunity for students to experience problem-solving on a global scale as well as introduce other perspectives on international issues.

Jackrabbit MUN

For the past three years, Poly MUN students have worked together to organize and host our school’s annual Model UN conference. Through their hard work over the course of the 2020-2021 school year, over 100 delegates from across the country participated virtually to cooperate and create resolutions for topics such as reframing virtual education, solving global food waste, and regulating media censorship at Jackrabbit MUN III.
