Taylor Johnson

“My name is Taylor Johnson. The reason why I chose to be a student part of the PACE Program is because PACE is one of the most recognized academic programs in the nation. This program not only challenges its students academically, but also teaches them how to be well-rounded. There are so many academic opportunities. For example, C-SPAN’s StudentCam Competition. StudentCam is C-SPAN’s annual national video documentary competition that encourages students, like myself, to think critically about issues that affect our communities as well as our nation. In January 2021, I received a cash prize from C-SPAN for my outstanding documentary concerning Student Athlete Compensation. I chose Student Athlete Compensation as my video documentary topic because I myself am a student athlete. As a freshman, I was placed on the Trackrabbit’s varsity team where I helped my relay team win the Arcadia 4x100 meter dash by running the fastest relay time in Southern California in 2021. In addition, I helped my team advance to the states regional meet by being the only freshmen to qualify for CIF at the Moore League track and field meet. I may have the second fastest 200 meter time out of all the freshmen in Southern California, but that will not stop me from becoming the fastest sophomore in all my events. I am truly proud of everything I have accomplished this year. I am excited to spend my next three years here at Poly as a student athlete in the PACE program and I am excited to learn more from both my teachers, coaches, and peers. I can not wait to inspire others and graduate from this school in my golden cap and gown as a track and field and academic champion. It is true what they say, this school is home of the scholars and champions. Go Jackrabbits!”
